Nizhóní Navajo Weaving
Participants will learn all the steps of the Navajo weaving process including how to prepare the loom with a warp, how to weave on a vertical loom, and how to finish a small rug. All materials will be included and everyone will leave with a loom, weaving comb and batten.
This course is taught by traditional Navajo weaver, Arlene Benally, who is also the featured artist of this year’s arts festival.

Cost: There will be two prices this year.
If you have your own loom from last year, you may bring it. The cost for those bringing their own looms is $150.
If you are new to weaving or do not have a Navajo style vertical loom, it will be included in the price of your workshop. The price is $210.
Number of participants: Up to 15 participants
Participants must be at least 10 years old.
Arlene Benally is a Navajo weaver and Navajo language teacher based in Shonto, AZ. She has been weaving since she was a young girl. She weaves traditional Navajo rugs as well as Navajo Rug dresses for ceremonies and special events.
