In this workshop we will learn how to eco print and dye on a silk scarf using leaves, and a variety of local and everyday seasonal plants. You will learn how to prepare and mordant your silk/ Hemp/Cotton scarf, the various ways of extracting color from plants, safety and more. We will also be working with a number of plants on that day to create 3 pots pot in which we will print 1 silk scarf per student. At the end of the day you will go home with 3-11” x 60” eco/biotanically printed silk/hemp/cotton scarf, and info sheet with basic details of how you can continue eco/ biotanical printing at home. The instructor will also share with you other eco/biotanically printing techniques, and showing you samples of them for a possible continuation on them at a later time.
Keep in mind that natural dyes can stain clothing and footwear, so be sure to wear something dark or old clothes, apron, a shaded hat, sunscreen, water, snacks, pruning hand shear/ sharp scissors and/or garden gloves. All materials included. No experience necessary.

Hello I am Roy Kady and I passionately weave and create with natural fibers to center myself in the cosmos of the universe. My ancestors, grandparents, and my Shimá (Mother) shared with me many stories that weaving was gifted to us in the creation world by Spider Man, by taking the natural elements of the universe to construct the first loom and then teaching his counterpart Spider Woman about weaving a web of life. I raise a very special breed of Navajo Churro sheep that was also gifted to us in the underworld, they have long dual fibers that is very suitable for the fiber arts that I pursue, whether it be a utilitarian wearable/or an Art décor for the collector. My designs are inspired by my natural surroundings; whether it is color/colors for my palate, natural fibers of the world, or stories that I have heard from the past/present. I hand process all of the natural fibers that I create with, and I grow several fibers to include in my Art as well. I also gather plants and vegetal dye my fibers to create one of a kind woven pieces. Thus my creations represent my heritage; traditions and the ever evolving Art of Navajo Weaving that is consider one of the last primitive processes that are still created by hand. I remember well, sitting by my grandparents and watching them work with natural fibers, which were my first inspirations of someday becoming a Fiber Artist, and wanting to learn the many beautiful processes of working with natural fibers, using our natural surroundings, thus I have been weaving since the age of 9 years old.
