Explore the wonderfully creative process of using tufa stone and cuttlebone to create a unique piece of jewelry or ornament! Tufa stone is a volcanic material used by Native peoples of the Southwest to create jewelry since the 1800s, and cuttlebone is the float devise found inside the Cuttlefish. It has been used in the pet industry as a supplant for birds to eat but has been used as a material in jewelry making since the 5th century B.C. in Ancient Greece.
Participants will learn how to safely carve the molds and learn basic silversmithing techniques such as piercing, sawing, forging, and polishing techniques to finish their casting.
Please read information below; participants must order their own silver prior to the workshop.
