Guided Hikes in collaboration with Bears Ears Partnership
This year, for the first time, there will be guided hikes available each morning of the arts festival in collaboration with Bears Ears Partnership. Each hike will be led by a Visit with Respect Ambassador and will take place at various locations close to Bluff. These hikes are all free, but you must register in advance using the links below (and we will accept donations if you want to contribute as a token of your appreciation). Some hikes are for all ages and some are only for adults. No matter your age or size, you must be registered in order to physically attend the hike in order to comply with BLM regulations.
Why go for a hike with an Visit with Respect Ambassador instead of on your own?
First and foremost, the BEP ambassadors can give you completely new perspective on a familiar location as well as help visitors learn about and appreciate this special area of the four corners region.
Who are Visit with Respect Ambassadors and what do they do?
(from the BEP website) “The increased attention and visitation to the Bears Ears region over the past several years has caused damage to natural and cultural resources. In an effort to mitigate existing damage and prevent future harm, our volunteer Visit with Respect Ambassadors help us monitor natural and cultural sites, document visitation patterns, and spread the Visit with Respect principles to visitors in Bears Ears.
We use the information collected by our Ambassadors to help drive decisions about our work. We also share this information with our partners to help make decisions about management planning for Bears Ears National Monument and increase awareness of Visit with Respect.”
Can I become a Visit with Respect Ambassador?
Yes! Trainings happen on a regular basis and for more information, please contact the Visit with Respect Program Director, Semira Crank at semira@bearsearspartnership.org
