Bluff Community Foundation Kick-Off Celebration

We invite you to celebrate the launch of the Bluff Community Foundation (BCF), the new parent organization of the Bluff Arts Festival. We’ll celebrate the creation of the Foundation with a good old-fashioned Bluff potluck..with a twist! Bring a pot of your best fall soup to share, and Twin Rocks will provide salad and bread. This is a competition, people! We’re in search of Bluff’s souper-star soup, and we invite you to vote for your favorite soup by dropping a few bucks (or more!) into the associated donation jar. The soup and chef that garners the most money will be crowned Bluff’s Souper-Chef! Help us raise much-needed funds that further our efforts to support and foster great work happening in Bluff. There is no doubt this event will be soup-herb!

Kick-Off Celebration Schedule
(Location: Old Turquoise Gas Station, 3rd East and Hwy 191)
4:00pm – 4:30pm: Community Conversation with Muralist Lucinda Moreno. (Lucinda will be painting a mural on the side of the Old Turquoise this winter, and this is your chance to tell her what’s important to our community.)
 4:30pm – 5:45pm: “Bluff is Souper” Soup-Off Competition & Dinner
5:45pm: What is the Bluff Community Foundation, A Presentation by the Board of Directors

Storytelling by the River featuring Author Kathryn Wilder

Walk across the street and to the banks of the San Juan River (with a belly full of warm, yummy soup) to listen to a reading by award-winning writer Kathryn Wilder.

Wilder was awarded this year’s Ellen Meloy Desert Writers Award for her in-progress book titled The Last Cows, to be published by Bison Books in 2025. Her memoir, Desert Chrome: Water, a Woman, and Wild Horses in the West (Torrey House Press, 2021), won the Colorado Book Award in creative nonfiction, a Nautilus Book Award, and was a finalist for the Sarton Women’s Book Award. Locals are invited to read stories or poems following our featured author.

Bluff Art Walk

A new event for the Bluff Arts Festival, the Bluff Art Walk promises a good time! Grab a map (available online and at all participating businesses) and walk, run, skip, hop, or better yet, drive to various galleries, shops, artist residences, hotels, and restaurants around town. Each spot will have a unique offering, various artists, or demonstrations. For a list of participants, visit the Bluff Art Walk page on our website.

6:30pm – 9:00pm
 Bluff Film Festival

Grab a chair and sit beneath the stars or drive up and take in an incredible selection of films from the comfort of your vehicle during this outdoor film festival at the Bluff Community Center. This year features six films covering an array of topics important to the communities of the desert southwest, including a photographic journey into Glen Canyon as it emerged from 60 years of being underwater and the story of a woman realizing her dream of becoming an Indigenous super-model, breaking barriers fueled by the love and responsibility of her sacred homelands.

For a full list of films, visit the Film Festival page on our website. Food trucks will be on-site for dinner.

Saturday, October 21st

10am – 5pm

This growing market features 30 of the Four Corners’ finest artists ready to help you add to your art collection! Dance the night away to live music outside the Bluff Community Center! First up is Blanding country rock band Broken Arrow from 6:30pm – 7:15pm followed by the Reggae Rock of Flagstaff’s Tha ‘Yoties at 7:30pm.

REMINDER: Hands-on, artist-led workshops run throughout the weekend. We also added a new workshop to accommodate demand. Be your own Banana Bread Extraordinaire (and Breakfast) with master baker River Curry is now open for registration. Banana bread and cheesy grits with spicy fried chicken? Yes, please!

We’ll also be hosting an open come-and-go community workshop at the Old Turquoise gas station all day Saturday, October 21st. You’ll learn about strawbale construction as we build a strawbale bench as part of an effort to breathe new life into this old space in the heart of Bluff. Come help us pull together this community project!
