Storytelling by the River

Storytelling by the River will be held Thursday, October 19, 2023 at 6:30pm.

Grab your camp chair or blanket and follow the path behind Recapture Lodge to the banks of the San Juan River where we will gather to listen to readings by Kathryn Wilder, one of two 2023 Ellen Meloy for Desert Writers Award Winners.

Please note: it is approximately .5 mile to the event site from the parking lot. Should you need assistance, transportation to the site will be provided via a golf cart.

 

 

Kathryn Wilder Writer

In 2023, Kathryn Wilder won an Ellen Meloy Desert Writers Award for her in-progress book titled The Last Cows, to be published by Bison Books in 2025. Her memoir, Desert Chrome: Water, a Woman, and Wild Horses in the West (Torrey House Press, 2021), won the Colorado Book Award in creative nonfiction, a Nautilus Book Award, and was a finalist for the Sarton Women’s Book Award. Her work has been cited numerous times in Best American Essays, and has been published in such literary reviews as Terrain.org, High Desert Journal, River Teeth, Fourth Genre, and many others. With an MFA from the Institute of American Indian Arts, Wilder lives and writes in Disappointment Valley and Dolores, Colorado, in the Dolores River watershed.
